FAQ’s

What age groups and skill levels do you teach?
I teach students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to advanced players.

Where do lessons take place?
I offer both in-person lessons (at the student’s home) and online lessons, depending on your preference and location.

Do you recommend in-person or online lessons?
For beginners, I strongly recommend in-person lessons to ensure the highest quality of teaching and real-time guidance. That said, I work hard to make online lessons as close to in-person as possible, though screens do have some limitations.

Intermediate and advanced students typically experience fewer barriers learning online, so both options work well.

What are your teaching hours?
My teaching hours are very flexible. Let me know your schedule and I’ll do my best to find a time that suits us both.

How much do lessons cost?

  • 30 Minute Lesson – £30
  • 45 Minute Lesson – £40
  • 60 Minute Lesson – £45
  • 90 Minute Lesson – £60
Discounts are available for block bookings on request.

Do you offer a trial lesson?
While I don’t offer a trial lesson, I do provide a free 15-minute online consultation. This is a chance for us to chat about your goals, what you want to learn, and how lessons will work. We can also cover any questions or concerns you may have. If you’re interested, just get in touch!

Are you DBS checked?
Yes, I hold an up-to-date Enhanced DBS check, which is available on request.

Do you prepare students for exams?
Yes, I offer exam preparation for ABRSM, Trinity, and other graded systems. I also support performance coaching, audition prep, or simply learning for fun.

What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 12 hours’ notice if you need to cancel a lesson. Cancellations with less notice will be charged in full. That said, I’ll always try to offer a replacement slot in the same week if possible.

What if you need to cancel a lesson?
If I ever need to cancel with less than 12 hours’ notice, I offer a half-price deduction on your next lesson of the same length. I’ll always let you know as far in advance as possible.

Do you teach during school holidays?
Yes — I highly encourage continuing lessons year-round to maintain progress and keep students brains healthy!

Can parents sit in on lessons?
Parents are welcome to sit in, especially for younger children. However, many older students find they focus better on their own, particularly in singing lessons.

Do you offer group lessons?
My lessons are usually one-to-one for focused progress. However, I occasionally offer group sessions for siblings or for younger children sharing time.

What should students bring to their lessons?
Please bring your instrument and a notebook. I’ll advise on any books or materials after our first session.

Do I need my own instrument to start lessons?
Yes, regular practice is essential. If needed, I can recommend reliable and affordable starter instruments or rental options.

How often should I/my child practise?
For steady progress, I suggest at least 10 minutes of practice, 4–5 times per week. We’ll work out a routine that suits your goals and lifestyle.

How do I pay for lessons?
Payment can be made in cash or via bank transfer, either per lesson or in blocks. Once we’ve agreed on a schedule, I’ll provide invoices accordingly.

Do you follow a set curriculum?
Lessons are tailored to each student. While I use structured milestones depending on experience level, we can follow exam syllabuses or explore interests like songwriting, improvisation, or specific genres and repertoire.

Do you teach adults?
Absolutely! I love working with adult learners — whether you’re a complete beginner or an advanced learner.
